FIOS G1100 router rebooting frequently in middle of night

Hi, I have just upgraded my old Actiontec router for 15/15 FIOS Internet service to new Quantum G1100 router under 50/50 service. Upgrade went fine, with no problems. However, in the middle of the first night, the router rebooted abruptly (dropped connection, red light, then flashing white as router reboots). This then repeated 3 times within 45 minutes!

I went into myfiosgateway administration and took a look at the system log. It appears that the device was updating its firmware successfully and rebooting, but it repeated this. Here is the log excerpt from the first time:

There are other err messages regarding failure to load "clients" file or no IPv4/br-guest support, but that all seems normal.

I cannot seem to find any part of the router administration that relates to firmware upgrading (ie., what the level is, when autoupdate should be scheduled, etc.).

Has anyone else experienced this, and should I expect this to repeat in the middle of every night?

Thanks for your help!

So I called tech support and they said that most likely there is interference between the cable and the hub. Someone is scheduled to drop by today to take a look at it.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Re: FiOS new install - terrible speeds

I'm just following up to say my issue seems to be resolved for the time being. It was an issue on Verizon's end that coincided with the installation of my service. Basic telephone support did their best to help, but seem to have neither the tools nor the information to do so. However the social media team at DSL Reports was very helpful, and I think got the issue taken care of more quickly than it otherwise would have. There is still an issue with a sharp dropoff of speed for a few hours in the evening every night, but that is something that everyone I know in this area with FiOS seems to have.

Overall I felt it was much more difficult than it should have been to get a straight answer on the problem; no official reply on the forums, phone support was unable to provide any answers, and I was forced to pursue alternative means of contact in order to find someone that could give me a realistic idea of what was going on.

FiOS Quantum Gateway AC1750 & Apple Airport Extreme

Just recived our upgraded modem and it's been difficult to pair the Airport Extreme to it.  Got some help last night but the Apple Tech noted that the modem would have to be bridge to work and thought I'd have to contact Verizon to have them put the modem into brige mode.  I've read that with other modems brige mode disables some of the telivision features.

I live in a split level house and the Verizn Modem is in the basement while the Airport Extreme is centraily located.

What do I need to do to have the Airport Extreme connect to the new Modem.

The AC1750 is connected and running but it's signal doesnt reach the second floor.  I've got the Airport Extreme connected via Eathernet cable to the AC1750.

SSH port forwarding not working

Hello,

I have been attempting to do port forwarding for SSH, port 22 with no luck.

I have logged into my router and in the Port Forwarding screen I have tried both specifying my IP that I get from https://www.whatismyip.com/ as well as selecting my computer from the drop down with “SSH TCP Any -> 22” and hit the “Resolve Now” button after adding the port forwarding rule. And so far when I check with http://www.canyouseeme.org/ or http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ it always shows that port 22 is blocked.

So what am I missing? What else may I need to do in order to get port forwarding to work?

Thanks

Router drops out

Twice now my FiOS router has suddenly quit sending out its WiFi signal. My computers all lose connection, and "connections available" doesn't show my FiOS SSID. On the first occasion, some weeks ago, a router reset brought it back. This time I tried that first, to no avail. Spent an hour on-line with Verizon "chat", without luck.(Using my cellphone as a hotspot.) Gave up on it, only to have it suddenly spring to life, even as I was doing nothing.

The lights on the router indicate no problems. But there's no SSID being sent out, so my computers can't find the router. Until something changes, the router signal reappears, and then all is well.

That's twice that this has happened, in five months on FiOS.

First off, it is a router not a modem which is a huge difference.

What are you trying to do?

Make the Airport be your primary Internet access device?

If you have TV service, it is hard to replace the Qunatum router.

If you don't then you can contact support and ask to have your Internet service switched to Ethernet.
Then connect Etherent cable from ONT (which is really acting in place of a modem) to your airport.

Yes, Modem, not router.

It's not necessary to make it primary as I do have other services, TV and phone so if I can just use it to extend the signal of the modem as the new one doesn't make it to the second floor or the far ends of the house.  I want to use it to extend the rage of the new modem.

With my old modem, I had it set up such that the Apple Air Port Extreme was in the center of the home and the signal covered the entire house and out into the yard.

Right now I have some other devices on the wireless like a thermostat, Apple TVs, garage door opener and some light switches.  None are able to connect because the signal is too weak

As I said, the Verizon device is a router not a modem.

Maybe airport support can help you if you tell them that you have a router and trying to bridge network with the airport.

For the love of God, you'd think I could get it right...

I tried that, they said that I'd have to call Verizon and have them bridge the ROUTER.

So there is no way to do that without the long phone call?

They can't bridge the router. It is needed to provide access to the stbs for guide and for.

Try googling airport express WiFi access point.

Someone will probably have posts on how to do it.

Slow speeds

I have the FiOS 75/75 plan with the quantum G1100 router.

When I run a speed test on speedtest.net or verizon.com/speedtest, it shows the proper speeds and i can verify the bandwitdh that goes through my machine.

However, when i change the speed test website to something else, or try to download ANYTHING either from my servers or google, or anything else, it is an order of magnitude slower. the speed usually hovers around 1MB/s.

Also, I don't know how well I can quantify this... but when I stream (netflix), it is slow OR reduced quality!

I called verizon support today and I was told there was an outage in my area (California), and there has been for a few days. Does anyone else have this problem? or can you confirm that there is indeed a problem in my area?

What exactly does your port forwarding rule say?

I just ordered FIOS Triple Plan with the Quantum package under the Verizon UEO program.   I want to be able to use my existing ASUS RT AC-66U wifi router.   Not sure how to hook up my own ASUS wifi router to the supplied Quantum Gateway in a manner that does not violate Verizon configuration requirements, i.e., Verizon will support the setup.   The two routers would physically be next to each other, so presumably the ASUS WAN port would plug into a Quantum Gateway ethernet port.   Not sure how to configure the Quantum to allow the second router without issues.

I can't be the first one to ask this...but sorry, I could not find the answer.

Thanks!

As you said, the easiest way is jut to run an ethernet cable from a LAN port of the Verizon router to the WAN port of your router.
No configuration is needed on the Verizon router.  You do need to pre-configure your router to be using a dhcp server range other than 192.168.1  Once you connect your router it will pick up a dhcp address from the Verizon router for it's wan address and will start handing out dhcp addresses in it's range to the clients that connect to it.

Recommended setup for "cord cutter"

I am looking to come back to Fios for the 150/150 Internet. I had Fios in the pat so house is wired but currently have another broadband provider.

I have the following devices in the house: 1 smart TV and 2 TVs using Roku; a Tablo DVR; PlayStation 4; Xbox One; 5 computers; 1 iPad and 5 phones; 1 printer - total of 18 devices.

This will be internet only - no Fios TV, no phone.

Will the 150/150 support these devices? Recommended router? I don't think I have to have a Verizon router unless I have TV? Or will the Quantum work with all of these devices?

Thanks in advance for your help! Ken

Would also add that my original house is old with thick stone walls. Devices are split between 2 floors. Need recommendation for getting a strong signal to the second floor, too.

Answer is that it depends:

If everyone tries to stream video at the same time, probably not.

How many people would be in the house at the same time?

No you do not need to use Quantum rotuer.

A number of people have preferences for other rotuers.

As for coverage, we can't say.
There are so many factors:

Where do you put the router

WHat brand of router

Do devices support both 2.4 and 5 Ghz signal.

Are there other people near you with WIFI that would leave congested airwaves

Ideally you can move the router to different spots in the house.

If you ahve an adroid device, download app called wifi analyzer. It will help you chart the ideal channel(s) to use as well as tell you strength.

Good luck.

Are you still having this issue?  Did you by chance get another gateway/router and have that solve your problem?  is it even possible to have that many open NAT XB1's within a home network?

Latency is terrible how fix it on Verizon side

I am highly proficient in networking and my fios is stuck connecting to Xbox one servers at 90+ms. I currently have 75/75 and get @80/35-60. My concern is the latency. It's wired, no wireless  and I've tried every option on the router.

Can someone internally fix this for me at Verizon by rerouting my jumps or something. It used to be 1-20ms.

Can you send me a quantum router? Would that help. Probably not but who knows.

Im 100% sure this is on the external side of my fios connections. There's nothing in my home causing this so please don't send me some generic troubleshooting template. I want an engineer or tech to fix this in the network. Thank you.
