Re: Latency is terrible how fix it on Verizon side
Re: Recommended setup for "cord cutter"
The metric you need to be looking at is how many people are streaming at the same time, not how many devices. Our family of four gets along quite well on a 50 down plan. Two streaming at the same time is very common, three not unusual.

Re: Adding a wifi router to Quantum Gateway
So here's how the ASUS should be set up.
IF YOU PLAN TO USE THE VERIZON ROUTER AS YOUR PRIMARY ROUTER:
- Log into the ASUS and configure the ASUS to match the Wireless settings you want to use ahead of time. Make sure it's working.
- Go to Administration > Operation Mode. Select "AP Mode."
- Once the ASUS applies this change and reboots, the ASUS will no longer be accessible from it's original IP Address. It will now become a DHCP client to the Quantum Gateway.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from any LAN port on the Quantum Gateway to the WAN port on the ASUS. This will let the ASUS operate as an AP while giving you four Ethernet ports.
- The Quantum Gateway should show the ASUS's IP address in the network list, and any wireless devices connected to the ASUS. Wireless and wired devices connected to the ASUS should also be able to access the Internet as if nothing happened.
If problems happen in this mode, access the ASUS's web interface and make sure DHCP is disabled (the router should do this automatically in AP mode). Also, if the router is taking on the same IP address as the Quantum Gateway versus a DHCP-assigned address, you may want to set the ASUS to use an IP from a different subnet - 192.168.2.1 instead of 192.168.1.xxx...
IF YOU PLAN TO USE THE ASUS AS YOUR PRIMARY ROUTER:
Here's a good FAQ on configuration setups and some other items that you may want to read over: https://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.1_Actiontec . I'm not sure if some of this information still applies to the Quantum gateway, but it should get you on the right path.
Re: SSH port forwarding not working
If your computer is Linux-based, did you check to see if IPTables or another firewall package is running and is actually allowing SSH traffic from external addresses? I would also venture a check into the FiOS router's Firewall settings. If the Firewall level is set too high, port forwarding will not work.
Re: Latency is terrible how fix it on Verizon side
Get the IP address from the NAT Table of your router that the Xbox is connecting to and post a traceroute to the game server you're connecting to. That will give us a picture of what is going on.
Re: fios quantum gateway and 2 xbox ones???
Open NAT on both Xboxes requires the use of UPnP. Moderate NAT should be sufficient for most Xbox services. Strict NAT will be the thing you don't want.
Re: FIOS G1100 router rebooting frequently in middle of night
Pretty sure I know what the issue is. The G1100 Quantum Gateway has a known issue with Arris GPON ONTs where it loses connectivity with the ONT. Though if it is an issue like this, it usually doesn't come back up on its own. What you'd want to do is verify the model of your ONT. Which should be printed on your ONT if you can find it. You'll be looking for Arris (or it might say Motorolla,) ONT 1000GT4 or 1000GT2. If you have one of these, Basically you're going to want to reseat all the coax in your home. that you can find that runs along the connection to the router.
If you don't have one of these ONTs, then you're going to want to call technical support.

Re: Recommended setup for "cord cutter"
We have 5 people - the 3 kids are 25, 17 and 14 so the 25 will be streaming Playstation games or Netflix; 17 streaming xbox games or Netflix; 14 year old using her phone; wife on iPad, phone or streaming Roku TV and me on the computer......
We have Comcast/xfinity now. Router in the same room as the main TV and 3 times in a 1.5 hour movie (Netflix via Roku) it had to buffer. Didn't take long but long enough to cause my wife to say that we're sticking with cable if this is how it's going to be.
Comcast is at least twice the cost for internet only so I'll be callign this week to switch to verizon. My understanding is that a minimum MBPS is required in order to get CAT5 instead of Coax from the ONT. CAT5 is what is needed in order to use my own router, right? I may get the Quantum on the monthly just to get it up and running while I figure out which router to get.
We had Verizon a year ago so already have the ONT bit not sure if it is the one we need for the higher MBPS.
Re: Recommended setup for "cord cutter"
They might need change your ONT, but you def will be ethernet from ONT to router. At that point you can use whatever router you want. If you use the verizon router you could allway get a network extender to help with wifi coverage. everyone loves wifi for convenience, but it isnt the best solution for streaming as you have already experienced.. For stationary devices I would look into getting it wired to the router for 100% reliable connection to the router. A power line adaptor is always an option if you cant run a ethernet cable. If want to use wireless, I would go with an aftermarket router instead of paying to rent a verizon router
Re: Slow speeds
The verizon speed test is only testing the verizon network, not the internet. this might be why you see a difference
Re: fios quantum gateway and 2 xbox ones???
But I've heard that UPnP isn't very secure and that either port forwarding/triggering is the way you would want to have your gateway/router configured. Moderate NAT I heard is also ok but if you have problems with chat/party or slow to connect to online play, what's the recourse?

It looks fine.
Do you have the ssh receiver set up? If not you will still get port not open reported when testing.
Re: SSH port forwarding not working
Thanks for the replies and for trying to help guys.
I'm on Windows 7 and only have AVG and spybot search and destroy, which I wouldn't think either one would be blocking it.
I'm trying to connect to my web hosting provider. And they say it should be setup to allow me to ssh in, but even if it wasn't or I was doing something wrong on my end to connect, I would think if both http://www.canyouseeme.org/ or http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ are showing port 22 as blocked for me, then it wouldn't matter beyond that.
Re: fios quantum gateway and 2 xbox ones???
Only other solution is to purchase business Internet ($$$) and have multiple IP addresses purchased ($$), if the consoles try to fight over the same ports. Or, the console application makers should build more robust software that can transverse all but the most troublesome NAT/Firewall configurations. AFter all an Xbox Live subscription should be paying for that (PSN's another story).
You're not wrong in saying and hearing about UPnP being a security issue. With security, comes tradeoffs. You may elect to turn it on or off whether you feel comfortable in letting the consoles and the router decide how to handle traffic, or if you prefer piece of mind.
Re: SSH port forwarding not working
You shouldn't need to add anything to router to allow you to ssh to an external site.
And seeing as how you don't have anything set up on your PC (ie a server) port scanning sites will see the port as closed.
Do you have access to the Internet any other way to verify that you can get access to your webhosting site?
Re: WCB 3000N coxial extender Firmware URL
Looking at this Actiontec website page:
http://www.actiontec.com/305.html
and clicking on Support > Downloads, it appears that there is no firmware update availble for the WCB3000N,
FWIW, my unit's firrmware version is v0.12vz.29.
If you want to ask if there's a later version available, I suggest you contact Actiontec Support:
Multiple Device slowing internet?
I'm a little bit confused about my internet speed (wired). I have 50/50 mbps fios internet speed. During day, when most of my family memebers are out, the download speed is normal (50/50). However at night, the download speed takes a huge dump down towards a download speed ranging from 15~35 mbps, while the upload remains the same (5).
So im assuming that its because when all the family memebers are home, theres 8~10 devices connected to the internet? Even though when half of the mobile+tablet devices are not in use (but are connected through Wi-Fi), it takes up a lot of bandwidth?
My Devices
1 PC wired
1~2 PC wireless
4 mobile devices
1~2 Tablet devices
Re: Multiple Device slowing internet?
Probably network congestion between Verizon and whatever sittes you are going to. Just keeping connections with multiple devices is not going to effect speed much. Obviously multiple heavy users within your home network will slow things.
